How do you feel ? What do you think ?

The  Apostle Paul wrote to his beloved friend and disciple, Timothy, “ . . .I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him . . .”

As I listen to people around me I find a fascinating contrast.  In the Bible the expressions I/we think and I/we feel are extremely rare.  In modern speech they are extremely common.  Conversely, when it comes to spiritual issues, in modern speech the expressions I/we know and I/we believe are quite rare.  But, in the Bible they are common.

Recently, I have had a brother ask me, Is God anti-intellectual ?  He gave us the ability to reason, doesn’t He want us to use that ability ?  Recently, another friend has found it impossible to understand love apart from feelings.  I frequently encounter people who suggest that things that feel good must be good; and things that feel bad must be bad.

Yes, God gave us reasoning power and emotions and food and the ability to enjoy sex and reproduce.  And yet as good and pleasant as all these can be, they each will be destructive when we do not restrain them to stay within the will of God.

The healthful boundaries for each are found by knowing God and His character and believing what He is saying.

Alas, while we insist on living in the world of our thinking and feeling, it is hard to grasp the knowledge of God and the safety of hearing and heeding His voice.

Jesus still means what He says: “ My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.”

His, thus Yours,
 Stuart
