By His Spirit, Not Intellect

No man will ever accept Jesus on the basis of our compelling arguments. No man will ever accept Jesus as a result of our undeniable persuasion. No man will ever accept Jesus on the basis of our presentation of the gospel. There’s only one way that a man receives. Jesus said, “It’s not flesh and blood that has revealed … but my Father who is in heaven.”

Relationship with Jesus comes by revelation. We must become people of revelation if we are to bring others into the Kingdom of God. We must become people of revelation if we are to raise up disciples. Therefore, we must allow the Spirit of revelation to work in us. We need to hear not only the words. Rather, let us go beyond to hear the witness of God in our own spirits.

Sadly, most people who have been exposed to the good news about Jesus have only heard an intellectual disclosure.  I remember a lunch meeting when a lovely couple were starting to describe why I should help fund their ministry to the poor.  After a little while, she mentioned one of their daughters.  I responded by describing what Holy Spirit was saying about the young lady.  Suddenly we left the intellectual sales pitch behind and embarked on a completely different level of conversation.  We began to discuss the real issues of their lives.

Are you willing to adventure out of the arena of your intellect to explore the things one may only see by revelation ?  Paul told us at the beginning of First Corinthians:

For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

  1. Hi Stuart,
So good to hear from you again. I read this, this morning. And reflected how easy is it to go into ‘intellect’ mode or even overthink things, something I am prone to too often. Life has been incredibly tough for us both last couple of years. But not giving up on words spoken over us and things shown me in the Spirit. But still in the waiting ATM we look to move from end of this year, and value prayer for the right place for us both going forward. God knows and sees all, and has a plan! God has started using my voice again in a small way in a little What’s App group, which is encouraging. God bless you and your family x
