Hunger Pangs

I pray that you are having a joyous and satisfying day today.

I was sitting on the sofa a few minutes ago thinking about going to the kitchen to find something to eat.  I am sure that you have had that feeling sometime also.  My body did not need fuel but my appetite desired some.  I began to think about the very tasty leftover spaghetti in the refrigerator, yum, and then I remembered the piece of steak that was there also.  Wow, my mouth began to water.

My emotions wanted to eat and savor the flavors.  But my body had no need for more food.  It was then that Holy Spirit brought to mind the story about Jesus in John chapter 4.  Most of us read the chapter and see it as the story of the Samaritan woman at the well.  But Holy Spirit was reminding me that it is a story about Jesus.  {I put some of the parts about Jesus below, for you.}

Jesus had been walking with His disciples a long time.  He was tired.  It was time to eat.  But, Jesus was so tired that He sat down in the shade by the well and let the disciples go into town for the food.  You can think of it as your friends doing a run to McDonalds while you rest.

The disciples come back with the food.  But Jesus is no longer hungry.  Why ?

For Jesus, doing the will of the Father satisfied His hunger.

Many people are literally eating themselves to death.  They keep putting food into their mouths to satisfy an emotional/spiritual hunger that can only be fulfilled by doing the will of Father God.

His, thus Yours,
  Stuart

John 4:3-34 (NASB) excerpts
He left Judea and went away again into Galilee. And He had to pass through Samaria. So He *came to a city of Samaria called Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph; and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, being wearied from His journey, was sitting thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.  . . .  There *came a woman of Samaria to draw water. Jesus *said to her, “Give Me a drink.” For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.   . . . .   [ I have omitted the conversation between the woman and Jesus. ]  . . . .   At this point His disciples came, and they were amazed that He had been speaking with a woman,   . . . .    the disciples were urging Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” So the disciples were saying to one another, “No one brought Him anything to eat, did he?” Jesus *said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.
