If we are not willing to lay down our lives here and now, why would we believe that we would be willing to when times get tough? Every father tells his teens, “Do not marry someone whom you hope will change. What you see now is the best of what you will have to live with for the next 50 years.” Do we expect Jesus to have less wisdom than ordinary fathers teach?
