It is a beautiful spring day here in the Washington, DC, area. I had just finished some telephone conversations and was sitting here being quiet. Yes, QUIET, no music playing, no YouTube video on the computer, no book that I could see or hear, no other human flesh talking or inviting me to talk, even the dog was too far away for me to hear her snoring. There were only the birds singing, the wind chimes tinkling and the drone of far off traffic and airplanes. I was being quiet.
In the midst of that quiet came the still small voice of Holy Spirit. He said, “I have a question for you and I want you to relay the same question to your friends.” He indicated that the question is one that will allow me and each of my friends to Fill in the Blank.
Here is His question:
What do you have in your _________________ that is more than you need right now to share with someone who needs it ?
So I asked Him what did he want me or my friends to put in the blank space. He said each of us might put in different things. But then He gave me some examples:
In your hand;
In your wallet;
In your heart;
In your mind;
In your home;
In your bank;
In your car;
In your possession;
In your group.
After all that, He said three things:
1. I do not want you to give things away that will cause you to lose self-control.
2. Freely and abundantly you have received things from me with NO restrictions or expectations of what you must do with them. When you share, share in the same way. Do not burden your gifts with duties or expectations.
3. If you do not know with whom you could share, ask someone you trust who also has a sharing heart.
Then He reminded me that when Jesus was watching people give to those in need, He commended the lady who gave less than many others but she gave all she could.
I have been enriched by what I heard from Holy Spirit ! I encourage each of you to hear what He has said. But, even more I encourage each of you to find some times of being QUIET so that you too may hear directly from Him what He wants to say to the Bride.
His, thus Yours,
Stuart
