Speaking the Truth in Love

We have all heard the exhortation to speak the truth in love.  Most often we hear that to mean say the hard things that people need to hear but do so in a loving gentle way.  Mixing of sweet compassion and mercy with the harsh things people do not really want to hear.  We think of Jesus saying “Get behind me Satan” to Peter.

But there is another perspective we might consider.  The Book tells us “God is Love”.  And it tells us of Jesus claim, “I am … Truth”.  Thus we might hear this exhortation to say, ‘Speak Jesus’s character in the character of God.’

The World wants us to depersonalize the Truth to the point that it is merely statements of verifiable facts.  And it wants us to depersonalize God to the point that he is merely a theological doctrine.  But God, who is Love, is a very real person who enters into intimate relationships with His children.  Jesus, who is Truth, is a very loving Bridegroom to the Church, His Bride.

Speaking the Truth in Love is the communication of a deep relationship with the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit.

His, thus Yours,
  Stuart
